SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY AT SHELL POINT
November 9, 2008

PROPOSAL
On November 5, 2008 three residents at Shell Point formed a steering committee to develop a plan for teaching other Shell Point residents some of the new technical widgets and gadgets that have come on the market in the last several years. It is proposed that these courses/lectures/ workshops be presented under the umbrella of a new group titled School of Technology (SOFT) at Shell Point. A steering committee has been formed for guiding SOFT that includes Bruce Finley, Ed Mitchell, and Richard Nelson. On an interim basis Richard Nelson was appointed as the leader of this steering committee.

CURRENT AREAS OF WIDGET AND GADGET TECHNOLOGY
The area of widgets and gadgets technology is expanding at a tremendous rate. It appears that a new one comes to market every month. Below is an inventory of the widgets and gadgets as of this date. Note: This inventory of widgets and gadgets excludes the computer environment, but there is getting to be a fine line between some of them like the netbooks and standard computers. [Netbooks are very small Notebook (laptop) computers]. Below are some samples of the widgets&gadgets we plan to be involved in.

TELEPHONE- analog and digital variations

CELL PHONES- basic /text messaging/smart phones

TELEVISION - High Definition TV/ Surround sound/ DVR- TiVo

DIGITAL OTHER – digital picture frame/digital audio recorder

VIDEO GAMES – Nintendo DS/Nintendo Wii (brain and fitness games)

E-BOOKS – Kindle (electronic book readers)

ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES – Touch screens – Audio input

A DISPLAY TABLE AT THE COMUTER COLLEGE ROUNDUP
